They absolutely REFUSE to fill my propane tanks on my RV. They claim that the company policy is that they will not fill any tanks that are not removed from a vehicle. I get it...IF your tanks can BE removed they have to be, but on a Class A, permanently mounted, how would you ever fill your tanks if you had to remove them (What? The tanks are empty so you have to go buy another RV?)Even the Tractor Supply website says they fill RV tanks. There is certainly not a local law that prohibits filling tanks... I can get it done at the Agway down the street, its just about twice the cost though.Does anyone know how I can talk some sense into this store manager? I called the 800 number tonight and the person said the District Manager would contact me... We'll see about that.. but hoping for something in the meantime.Thanks!Chris

It is their policy, It is their propane.Take the tanks off the trailerTHEIR HOUSE THEIR RULES.Flying J has rules about what they fill and how.My feeling is you are the pain in the arse. Quit messing around and either follow their procedures or take your business elsewhere.If you cannot remove it because you are disabled or frail I bet if asked nicely they will help you.But since you went over the managers head I think you now have no friends at that TSC

I have filled our Class A at several TSC stores, and have had no problems. Your local store manager may have some problem that you are not aware of. Go somewhere else.

How exactly am I being a pain in the arse when the Tractor Supply website says:"We fill tanks up to 100 lb. It's not that I WON'T take the tank off... it is PERMANENTLY mounted. It CAN'T be taken off. I really don't think they would remove a permanently mounted tank no matter how nicely I asked them.But I thank you for your helpful suggestions all the same.

Check around. I'm sure there are several propane suppliers in the York area. Tractor Supply doesn't want your business, others will.Move on. It's not always about the lowest price.

You will need to find a different supplier. Permanently mounted ones use a different filling method. I am lucky, the one I use has two filling stations (one for removable cylinders and a different pump for permanently mounted ones) at the same location. It is actually a totally different filling nozzle on each. Our local Costco fills only removable cylinders, can't/won't fill permanently mounted ones.Ken

I stopped at a Menards up north for propane last year.
Had to instruck the service guy on how to fill MH tank.
Said he never filled one before.

And had I suggested it would have been "Contact Corporate" I have had to make a point with a few different companies (Not in this area) and that's the first step. Contact Corporate.

I can not recall If I've ever gassed up at a TSC.. Perhaps one time. But the TSC I might have gassed at there is a hardware nearby I usually go to first, easier in and out. Same price.

I do however shop TSC fairly often.

Confusion due to improper nomenclature........Cylinders or Tanks

Propane CYLINDERS.....portable vessels under DOT. Removed for filling (although some places will fill with them on TT tongue)
Should be filled by weight, liquid level bleed valve open until liquid spews then closed/filling stopped

Propane TANKS.......mounted/fixed in position (MHs) under ACME/NPFA.
Filled in place.....but service valve should be closed and all persons/creatures out of MH during filling.
Liquid level Bleed valve should be cracked open during fill (can't weight tank) until liquid spews then closed and filling topped.

Glad District Manager was in the know and informed Store Manager of his misunderstanding.
Hopefully the 'training' will be thorough and employees will take an interest.

Here you go.. A happy ending!

I just got off of the phone with the District Manager. It was, as I suspected, a misunderstanding by the store manager. He began working there about a year ago and was told that they couldn't fill tanks unless they were removed from the vehicle without being told the exception if they were permanently mounted RV tanks.

The District Manager consulted the employee manual that confirmed that it was permissible to fill RV tanks, then spoke with AmeriGas -- their suppler to confirm. AmeriGas will be sending one of their representatives to the store next week to make sure that the employees are properly trained in filling permanently mounted RV propane tanks.

Looks like it is a Win for everyone and the system worked like it was supposed to.

Kudos to Tractor Supply for their customer service. Please support the Brick and Mortars whenever possible!

Biscuit... Thank you! Now.. do you know how to read this thing? There is a section on "Loading, Unloading, and Transportation" and a section on "Mobile Living and Other Mobile Units" and both say they are 'Reserved' Does that mean they haven't written the information, or it is somewhere else and you are to reference THAT item.

'Reserved'...........means a Section/Number has been assigned for legislation but NONE currently exists.
Should legislation get passed they will have a place to put it.

X2 - Life is too short to get wound up about where to fill LP. Plenty of places around to handle the task. When I need LP it usually takes a matter of little time - no matter where I am - to get it done. My dealer, another dealer down the road, a CG, heck I've even had my home LP company fill it for me if I catch them during a delivery. Always considered availability and ease of refill over price. If over the course of a year I spend an extra $20 to fill different places, so be it.

At our local TSC I doubt anything larger then a small Class B could get in to the propane filling station. They do have the proper fittings though.
