California lets local courts impose various surcharges for any traffic citation. Say you get a ticket for speeding and cost is $200. Local court fees will vary by location, but could easily exceed the basic fine. Court imposed processing and other fees could be more than the fine. Total cost for a $200 speeding ticket could easily be $500 or more.
