trans going into gears hard
my trans really goes into forward and reverse fast/hard when I shift. Could that be a modulator?

If it has a modulator, check the vacuum line to it.
also check the kick down linkage or cable.
it depends on the transmission, some with a kickdown cable , the cable sets the pump pressure off throttle position. on some, if it's set wrong it can burn the transmission up. I don't remember you saying what you have.
