Travel thoughts

Need to make a trip from the west coast to the Midwest (Missouri). I have two choices of time, leave last of may and re3turn in July or leave last week of July coming back early October. I'd prefer last of May but am leery of tornadoes. Which choice would you take? I've done the tornado thing twice and was fortunate. Guess it's that 3rd. times a charm thing :)
  • I’d go May-June too. Odds of a tornado getting you are much lower than they like to play up. Stay alert, and know where to take shelter just in case. Last time I camped in Kansas during tornado season, the bath houses at the campground were designated shelters, folks with pets in the ladies, petless folks in the men’s. Never needed it.

I would choose May. Buy a CB with a national weather alert and/ or a weather Radio.

We would be staying at the RV park in Old St. Charles. The last time we were there was 9 small tornados touched down in St. Charles. Not that much damage though.
  • You and I can usually see a tornado and drive away. We can never drive away from a California earthquake.

  • Why worry about tornadoes when you can have earthquakes and wild fires? Seriously, tornadoes are rare, local events. While the exact location where one will strike is impossible to predict, the weather service does a good job of predicting an area where they might strike, so watch the weather reports.

I live near Missouri. The weather there in June will be warm and humid. In August it will be very hot and very humid, so I would pick a June visit. Also, tornadoes are rare after June 1.
