- rickwellmanExplorerThanks for all the info I am taking notes. I appreciate it
- 2gypsies1Explorer IIIPurchase online the 'Mountain Directory for Truckers and RVers'. It doesn't include every single road but does included the popular ones and what to expect mile for mile. Even after driving the roads many times, we always referred back to it just to refresh ourselves as to what is coming next. It comes in various formats and for eastern and western states.

Don't try to avoid some mountain driving though. That's where the awesome scenery is. Just get in the correct gear BEFORE starting downhill not while you're speeding up downhill. Semi trucks drive slow going uphill so don't feel rushed by doing so either. It's not a race to the top.
Sounds like an awesome trip!
While it's fresh on your mind - go into 'My Forums' at the top of the page and 'My Profile'. Enter some information about what you're traveling in. Also, do a 'signature' which will show up on every post you make with your RV type, model and size, what you're towing, if anything. This will hopefully solve any future comments and jumping all over you in the future when you return for more info - and please DO return! When you're brand new you really don't know the protocol on these forums. This will help out everyone. - pop-sicleExplorerHello and welcome
You are planning the trip l hope to take just haven't put any dates or directions yet.
I also pull my new to me Harley behind our MH can't imagine not having the bike with us. Love to make the short trip from north central Fl to North Carolina and ride the twisties.
Our first big trip after retirement was to Albuquerque NM for the Hot air balloon fiesta ( awesome ) then over to the Grand Canyon, while attending the fiesta we jumped on the bike and went to los alamos and saw all the atomic bomb stuff really Kool.
Can't provide you any help at this time but you will get plenty here.
Check out routes and roads part of this forum much discussion on how to get from here to there. - rickwellmanExplorerThat's the information I am looking for. I plan on going next year. Also what steep grade roads to avoid. All the information is appreciated.
- IvylogExplorer IIIWelcome back. Your last post makes it easier to respond. I'll assume with your route this is for next summer although we are leaving tomorrow for CO, WY, ID, CA, UT, AZ, NM for two months without any reservations. We usually set up a base camp in a USFS no reservation CG on Sun or Monday in or near a NP. Show up on Friday and your odds of finding a site for a big rig is nil so we usually leave Friday. Saturday we'll will stop at a private CG and resupply so we can do five more days boondocking.
Fortunately it's dryer out West (not including the fires) than Fla so the trike will work most of the time although coastal OR could be wet. One of the best sites for Public CGs is uscampgrounds.info and for Private and Public... Allstays. We will do the 1500 miles to Santa Fe in two days as it's too hot for anything in between. On your route I'd do both rims of the Grand Canyon and Zion/Bryce in southern UT. Worth a day in Las Vegas if you have not been there before. I would not go through Death Valley to get to Yosimite unless at night... 118+ will test your MH's cooling and your ACs. Unless you have more than two months I'd probably skip the southern CA coast and go to Lake Tahoe from Yosemite and then to the coast above San Fran.
The OR coast is a must see, but I would skip the WA coast and head to ID and then Yellowstone and the Tetons and then CO.
*Hope this helps to make up for my previous post :B although your first one was lacking in specificity. - 996PilotExplorer

I will be taking my class A motorhome and pulling an enclosed trailer with my harley trike...
Man I envy you - really!! I can only comment on one portion of your proposed trip - Colorado. Took the truck camper with the Road King in tow to Durango and stayed in a campground (Durango Riverside Resort) on the Animas river as a base camp then explored the area on the Harley. A MUST ride is the Million Dollar Hwy (State 550) you can leave out of the campground, take 550 up through Silverton, to Ouray, to Telluride then make the loop down through Rico and back to Durango. Another day ride over to Mesa Verde Nat'l Monument (great ride through the park). Several other great rides in the area - too many to list. Go for it!!
Don't let the (forum) idiots get to you. One of my first posts I had two people going absolutely postal on me over a comment on LED lights. They just wouldn't quit even when I checked out of the thread. Some just have more time than brains! Hang in there and have fun. Post often from the road with LOTS of photos and lifetime experiences to share.
Dan - Corky12ExplorerBlack Hills of South Dakota. Camp at one of Custer State Park campgrounds and ride just about any highway from Hot Springs to Spearfish for great scenery. Check out the buffalo roundup in late Sept at the park. Camp at Red Lodge Montana or Cody Wyoming and ride the Beartooth Highway. Port Townsend or Port Angeles Washington and ride Hwy 101 around the Olympic Peninsula and the road to Hurricane Ridge in Olympic NP. Any of the National Parks in Utah. The United States is a huge country and you can find something of interest just about anywhere. Enjoy your trip.
- rickwellmanExplorerOk what I was asking is that I will be taking my class A motorhome and pulling an enclosed trailer with my harley trike. Will be leaving florida and traveling west to California going up coast to Oregon and Washington then Idaho and colorado. I was just asking if anyone had taken this trip and maybe things to do and not do. I 2 as wanting to set up base camps then ride my trike around to see the sites. That being said.
Please if you have comments please don't have negative ones. - Two_JayhawksExplorer

Wanting to set up base camps then ride motorcycle to see the sites. And suggestions?
Well heck yea lots of folks on this forum do exactly that. Do you own a class A and a motorcycle or are you asking for suggestions on what to buy? Please cut loose with some more info and many will be pleased to offer more specific info. Welcome to the forum and don't be discouraged! - 2gypsies1Explorer IIII figured out what he was asking..is it feasible...has anyone done it...any suggestions?
It seems that others that replied could figure it out, also.
To me he wasn't asking for specific places to go. It wasn't that confusing.
