Traveling to view the Eclipse ?

That map is interactive. You can hit the + and zoom in and then move your cursor to where you are considering. click on it and it will give you exact times for partial/total eclipse. Note that the times are "Universal Time" You need to convert to your local time, or you'll miss it. e.g 4 hours earlier for EDT. You can google a conversion site.

Every time the sun sets behind San Jacinto mountain when I'm in the desert, it's my own little eclipse. :p

BUT south TN is where the eclipse is best viewed??

It looks like the 'totality' eclipse path will go directly over Nashville, TN.

I don't see the advantage to fly in a jet to see it, unless it's cloudy out and you need to get above the clouds.

We retired earlier this year so have the option of getting in place early. We checked in to Gros Ventre in Teton National park tuesday and will stay till the 22nd. Not at all a bad place to have to spend a couple weeks, and we're set up nicely for dry camping. Are

Yes, we know it's a long way. We could have gone to North Platte or Casper. But watching the eclipse over the Tetons was a better choice. I experienced the total eclipse in Feb. 1979 in south central Montana while being a driver for a bus in a 17 bus Yellowstone Park Trans charter with 680 eclipse gazers. It was remarkable to see on the plains of Montana. So with the Tetons involved it will be a spectacle for sure watching the shadow climb the mountains
