Mike....We have a Genie in the house and use an older style HD DVR in the coach. The Genie lets you record up to five programs at once, while the older unit only allows two. I would like to have a Genie in the house and coach, but DirecTV does not allow you to have two Genies under one account. It's nice to have the DVR in the coach because you get use to being able to record, pause and rewind.
I know that many take their Genie with them, but I prefer not to keep moving one back and forth. The HD DVR runs an additional $10.00 a month. DirecTV knows I have one in my coach, because they have them listed as Family Room and Motor Home.
Side Note: We get all of DirecTV's channels, except the movie channels. About once a month, DirecTV will offer free movies on Showtime or one of the other movie channels. When they do, I turn on my coach satellite and record movies that I like. I have about 25 of them stored on the HD DVR in the coach. This allows me to watch those movies on the road.
If you happen to be in an area where you can't get satellite, which happens on occasion, you can still turn on the DVR and let it go through setup. When it's done and says, no signal, you can go to LIST and still play all the movies you have stored.
