Can't overlook the obvious.........
Those should have a fairly stiff spring on the center pin and need to be pushed in firmly (HARD) to compress the spring and maintain good contact.
I've had maybe a dozen different ones in cars, trucks and now an RV and have yet to have any problem with bad connections. Well except for one I broke and another that cracked and flew apart.
