Trying to decide if a Class B will work for me

I'm trying to decide if a Class B is the right choice for me. I prefer boondocking over campground staying. I'm constantly on the move and rarely stay in one place for more then a day or two, to much country to see. I like that with a Class B you can get to the coach area without going outside. My concerns are that most Class B sit very low to the ground and the water tanks and lines are outside the coach. I want to be able to travel off-road (forest roads, dirt roads no serious off-road stuff) and I was wondering if other folks have taken their B's off-road and can shed some light as to their experiences with their vans.
  • Thanks everyone for your input. I know Roadtrek is making B's on 4x4 chassis, however, the ground clearance is still low and the tanks and water lines are still outside. My biggest concern is the water tank and water lines under the chassis. May have to take a look at the Sportsmobile.

look at the 2000 4x4 Revcon on eBay. It'll go anywhere!

Sportsmobile specializes in Bs for the kind of travel you are talking about. Check them out!

I can't affrd a Sportsmobile, so far -- so ground clearance and dirt roads are why I made my homebrew B instead of buying a 'normal' used B. But I have been looking, nonseriously, and Bs do seem to vary a lot in how high they sit.
  • I've seen B's on dirt USFS roads, but not as far out as the Tiger can go. You might take a look at TheFitRV.com; they put Sumo springs on their Travato to raise it a bit.
  • Just get a 4x4 class b and problems solved as far as off road. I am sure they would would have a higher clearance.
