Tucson Repair shop for Chassis

I'm having some alternator issues. I put a new one on in August and on the way to Tucson it seems to have quite alternating ( I know thats not what it does!). Any way does anyone know of a good truck shop here? I called Lazy Days, which is where we are staying, and they said they would call me back to schedule and didn't and i called and left a voice mail, and they still didn't call back.

Called Freightliner to schedule an appointment and they don't take appointments but said to bring it in and within 3 hours they would work me in. Don't like that so much.

If anyone has a good place here would appreciate your help.

Thanks to all!
  • Freightliner is very efficient and will get the job done quickly. La Mesa may take a bit longer.
  • Really a three stage process:

Need to properly diagnose the problem-- could be something as simple as loose or broken wire (if an external sense set up, that small wire is particularly susceptible to issues).

If you do need a new alternator, it is CRITICAL that you determine the proper replacement. Most are different than truck alternators that may look the same.

All will have a B+ terminal. Some will have a ground lug. Some will have an external sense terminal. Some will have an excite (ignition hot powered)terminal.

Go back with EXACTLY what you have in terms of connections!

Last step is to install the new one.

How much of this you choose to do/hire out is up to you, but you need to be aware of the necessary steps. Many times truck techs install an incorrect alternator for our application. If in doubt, call your chassis maker for exact alternator make and model.
  • Personally, I would go with Freightliner. Whether you have an appointment somewhere or not you are going to have to wait. That's a brand new facility in Tucson and I have always gotten excellent and honest service from the Freightliner folks.
Premier is also very good but it is somewhat of a boutique shop and you are going to pay more than you would at most other places.
  • My friend bought an RV from that Lazy Days two years ago. She doesn't have anything nice to say about their service department.
  • Thank you Pig farmer, I'll check with them, We went to their RV show today at the Pima fairgrounds and they seemed very nice, low pressure.

I'll give them a call tomorrow.

    Thanks
  • We had work done at LaMesa right across the road from LD and was very satisfied with their work.
  • Have you had any work done at Lazy Days? Not sure if they won't call me back I want to give them the money..
  • If it were me I'd walk the few feet from the park and talk to Lazy Days in person.
