TV Free air antenna

Having used the old Direct TV dish and a Bat Wing, in our Class A, we very seldom watch much TV, we thought we would try - JACK OA-8000 Digital TV Antenna - Could you all give me some input as to how they work in real life?

JACK OA-8000 Digital TV Antenna

We have been out of the TV loop for so long I would like to be educated on this product.

If you use it how does it work?

Do you have an estimate of the range?

Do you need to be in the city that has the tower or will it pull in signals from afar?

Would you recommend it to others?

I'm sure this has been discussed before but help me out.

TIA,

For $16 at Home Depot, I picked up the flat digital antenna and just threw it behind the TV in the overhead cabinet. Works perfect. I've had to occasionally take it out of the cabinet -- here's a link from Staples on the product: http://www.staples.com/RCA-ANT1400R-Indoor-Digital-Flat-Passive-Antenna/product_IM1Y96411?cid=PS:GooglePLAs:IM1Y96411&ci_src=17588969&ci_sku=IM1Y96411&KPID=IM1Y96411

I've tried this one in the "Sticks and Bricks House" with a very poor result, sort of why I was checking on the 8000.

So much is related to GOOD connections - but even with the best connection my results have varied with the little set of flat Rabbit Ears.

Thanks, keep them coming - along with alternative suggestions.

  • A lot has to do with your TV. Have all Samsung TVs new Smart TV pulls in more stations than older Samsung.
  • The Batwing with the Wingman add-on (or the Sensar IV which has the Wingman built in) is still the best antenna out there. Unless yours is broken you will get the best service with your existing antenna.
  • Replaced the batwing with a Jack. No major change regarding pulling in distant stations so reception is about the same. The Jack does seem to be a bit less directional and will pull in more stations without having to spin the antenna around to peak the signal.
  • I have a Jack Antenna and it work great. What has made the difference I use tv fool.com to fine the way to point the antenna.
  • I replaced my batwing with this jack antenna when my batwing got damaged because I forgot to lower it. I find this jack antenna to be most satisfactory.

We dropped DirectTV several years ago and now we watch movies on our DVD player and watch the local channels we get over the air with our jack antenna. In the past three months we have traveled from Florida to upper Vermont, then on to Nebraska, down to Missouri and Texas before come home via Alabama. We got TV stations at most every place we stopped. Closer to the big cities we would get 25 to 40 channels. I am most satisfied with this antenna.
  • I have seen this horse beat to death as I was considering one.....Even the store where I was going to buy it said it was about 50-50 as to what customers thought. He never pushed the deal--It was $140 there which is about right. Oh, I have yet to buy one.
