tv help quick

I have a wineguard G2 carry out that I'm using for the first time. It was my understanding it was mostly plug and play, not so. I have traveled from Va to Fla and tried to call and get my programming on this receiver the same as it is in home. After numerous calls and long waits on hold, nothing. I have tried calling Direct TV twice and Wineguard twice nothing. Is there a magic formula for this, I'd hate to think I paid five big ones and nothing.
  • I use a G2 with 2 HD DVR Receivers. One is an HR24-100 the other is a HR21-700.
You do have to go to the receiver menu and change settings.

Below is my "Cheat sheet" for setup in the MH.

Reverse these settings when you get back home.

MH – Portable 18” Dish and SD Channels Only

    1. Do not install B-Band Converters
    2. Plug in all cords. Turn on receiver wait for setup to complete (about 6 minutes)
    3. Menu-Settings & Help-Settings-Satellite-View Satellite Strength-Satellite 101, final check after aiming the dish
    4. Menu-Settings & Help-Settings-Display-TV Ratio: Standard 4:3
    5. Menu-Settings & Help-Settings-Display-TV Resolutions: Check 480i only
    6. Menu-Settings & Help-Settings-Display–Video: On, Pillar Box, Dark Gray
    7. Menu-Settings & Help-Settings-Display-Preferences-Guide HD Channels: Hide HD duplicates. Note: This takes a few minutes to change.
    8. The MH Portable dish will not receive/record HD and will display ln not found for HD channels.
    9. Menu-Settings & Help-Settings-Satellite-Repeat Satellite

Setup: Dish setup: Option 1 – 18” round dish 02: Multiswitch Dual. To confirm: Menu-Setup-System Setup-Info & Test-More System Info and confirm.
  • Thanks to all who replied. evidently large 5er pulled in and partially blocked one or more SATs after I moved dish and put it on tripod, works fine.
    I'll say it-----Dummy
  • "blknomad"......You need to provide more information as to what is not working. The first time you fire up a new antenna with a DirecTv receiver box, you have to go into the receiver menu and set up the antenna configuration. Hopefully, you didn't grab an HD box from home and try to run it with this new antenna. You're new portable is not HD, but SD, requiring a different receiver.

So.....we need more info, like where did you get the box from, home, or is it specifically for the RV. If the receiver is specifically for the RV, you need to walk through the the sat dish setup. DirecTV can do this for you.
  • I have this setup. The unit normally comes with the dip switches set for Direct TV. You do need a 12 volt power source connected to it.
The directions you received will tell you how to get it going and in the event you have to reset the internal switches the directions explain how to do that. You do have directions, right? Be sure nothing is blocking the path to the satellite. Once you have it setup and plug in the power (12 volts) you should hear it start to search for the satellite.
  • Here's what I read on Amazon reviews and questions.

You have to have it powered with 12 DC and if you're on Direct TV, you need a converter for the swm (whatever that is). Maybe that's the converter from 110 volts to 12 volts.

    Here's something else I found:
Just to kind of clear it up, out of the box the G2 Carryout will work with the following DirecTV receiver models:
    H-24
    HR-24
    H-23
    HR-23
    H-22
    HR-22
    H-21
    HR-21
    H-20
    HR-20
    D-12
    D-11
    D-10
    R-15
    R-16
    R-22

The antenna needs to be set for "DirecTV" this is the first job (101 west/AMC-4)

Second. The Receiver needs to be set for 18" Round.. NOT ALL DIRECT TV RECEIVERS CAN DO THAT NO DAYS.

Third: you will not get HDTV.

For HD you must use a dish.
  • Find someone at your location that has a Direct TV system up and running. Switch out your receiver, then call Direct TV. Have them walk through the fixed dish, and set up receiver card.
Receiver must be able to receive Direct TV satellite before they can help you.
After that then connect it to the G2
  • Did you take a receiver from home? What receiver? Did you actually try things before leaving home?
