It's amazing how convoluted this thread has become.
Are we discussing L-Band, HDMI, HD-SDI, RF HDMI, or what?
If one needs HDMI at the other end of the coach, there are two options:RF or wired. RF can have lots of problems, including interference from WiFi. Not saying it won't work, but there are issues.. If you spend the time and effort, all those problems are gone.
With trying to use the Black Magic gear, while expensive for a consumer, it the cheapest gear you can use (that works) in broadcast and industrial applications. BUT, the first time that the HDMI to HD-SDI converter sees an HDCP encoded program (copyright), that box will shut off and not allow anything through, and DirecTV encodes all it's streams with HDCP copyright flag On at all times, so it ain't gonna work. Why? Simple.. Because it is a box that can convert HDMI into a usable format that one can use to make multiple copies of whatever comes in on the HDMI input, and by manufacturers agreement, and threat of suit from all the movie houses, all but a very few bootleggers in China shut down when they see the copyright flag.
Wire the coach with HDMI and avoid all the problems.
Thank you for that information. I have not had experience with HDCP over HDMI. I'm pretty sure not many would take the HD-SDI route but I am glad you came along and gave a good reason not to based on experience.
