Two Couches in DPs, Need Ideas for Replacing One

A lot of the DPs we have looked at have two couches. Even though they sleep 4 or 5 people they have seats for 8 or more and with just the two of us, we don't need the 2nd couch. Since I'm also a furniture maker, we're looking for ideas for something to replace the extra couch.

We've seen the desk and chair, credenza, and entertainment center, but wonder if there is something you've seen that would prove useful in that space. Please give us your ideas.

Couch replaced and the angled door has a slide out for a laptop. The door to the left has a slide out drawer that is cut to fit around the laptop. Normal drawer below that and below that is a drop down with slide out for the printer.

And just like Dennis this is not my area...

    That is really fine.

    LOL

I'd go for a wood lathe and bandsaw.
  • I could never relate to 2 couches in a RV. That was one thing I walked on by when looking. Mine has a desk with the pull out mentioned above and a swivel recliner.
  • Now that I'm alone, if I hang onto my motorhome (rather than downsizing to a B) and start using it for snow birding, my one couch will be coming out to be replaced by a large work table and a decent chair. That's about all the furniture I actually use at home, besides the bed.

That's what fits my needs, and it would also be the configuration of any custom-built B. But if my wife were still alive, the couch would be replaced by a rocker recliner and a sewing table, those would be her needs for long-term use of the RV.

So do whatever fits your needs.

Just make sure that whatever DP you choose, the couch you want to take out can come out, and is not hiding utilities. Less likely to be a problem with a DP than with a smaller motorhome, but sometimes buyers planning modifications fail to check.
  • I took out a J-couch and replaced it with a computer desk that uses a swing-out cantilever for my monitor.

The computer is in a vented cabinet behind the chair, and I placed a printer on the surface above the computer.

  • We recently took out one of the 2 full size sofa/beds and put in 2 Euro Chairs. Absolutely LOVE it now !! Best part is they took my couch on consignment and sold it !! Pretty much got one recliner for free:B
