Someone posted a new U-Tube video on the aftermath of hurricane Harvey. It was a TV interview with a lady in one of the RV parks on the island. She was telling them that she had bought the new class A last year when she retired. She had sold her home and bought the RV. She stated that she had 3 grown children that had moved to Port Aransas years ago and she wanted to be near them. When the time came to evacuate the island, she got in the car with her children and went to Corpus Christi. The video showed what remained of the RV. The entire roof was gone and all that remained was the cab. It looked like it had been a beautiful RV. This caught my attention because my sister and her family live in Port Aransas. They had enough warning from the officials to hook up their boat and take it inland. Then they went back and hooked up their travel trailer and got their pets. My question is the insurance on this lady's RV that she intentionally left behind and then posted the statement online. I really don't think the insurance company should be obligated to pay her claim. What do all of you think? I am a retired female myself but I think what this woman did was inexcusable.

chances are she wont get anything by the time they pay it off. So cant see it being on purpose

I doubt any ins. company will consult any members of this forum as to what they will or will not pay. You also do not know all of her circumstances. Leave the poor woman alone!

I don't believe that the woman intentionally left if to file an insurance claim. But I do believe ( I think this quote was from Albert Einstein): The difference between genius and stupidity is that genius has its limits.

Of course insurance exists to provide protection from accidents or even poor decisions. She paid her premiums, got caught in a storm and evacuated with her family not clogging the highway with her motorhome. It would be a breach for the insurance company to not pay. Many of us would have moved the motorhome inland but she did not. I am sure it will still cost her but the insurance should pay.

Hopefully 'she' had a real true FTvrs Insurance Policy that covered her personal property/contents/loss of home and 'replacement value'

Not just an RV Ins policy

That said....why she didn't take her 'home' is a question that will not get answered.

Instead of getting into car with her children....the children should hae gotten into her 'home' that had sleeping, food, water etc. :S

BUT Ins. pays even when stupid decision are made by policy holder..drunk driving accidents, reckless driving accidents, driving into a business cause hit the go pedal instead of stop pedal etc etc

There was short notice to evacuate. That storm went from depression to cat 4 in 48 hours. People got out with what they could. If she had taken the RV to Corpus, where would she have put it to be safe? Is your RV more important than your life? Should people have sailed their boats out of the way? A god friend of mine lost his vacation house and boat in Port Aransas. He couldn't get down there (from houston) in time. Now he is ripping sheet rock out of his brand new home in Houston and won't be to Port Aransas for another month.
Back in the early 80's I flew a bunch of airplanes from Houston to Austin to get them out of the way of Hurricane Allen. It ended up hitting south Texas and went through Austin, spawned tornados over the airport and destroyed hundreds of planes. You never know what is going to happen with these storms.
