upgrade HWH 325 system to auto leveling

Hello I was just wondering if it is possible and cost effective to upgrade my current HWH #325 leveling system from a manual leveling type to a auto leveling system. My existing unit works fine but we have seen others that are auto leveling and like this feature. My motor home is a 2006 Newmar Mountainaire gas engine. Thanks

  • Well,
Our coach, an '04 Itasca Horizon 36GD with the C-7 330HP CAT, has the HWH 625 Computer Controlled Automatic Leveling System. We've owned this coach now for 6.5 years and, have been using the auto mode for the entire time we've been traveling and camping with the exception of, spaces where I know the auto level system will not handle the angles.

The auto sensor can get out of adjustment every now and then. So, when that happens, at least on our coach, it takes me a whopping 1-2 minutes for an adjustment. From then on, the auto side works outstandingly, as long as the site I'm using it on, does not over-tax it's capability. Any coach, with an automatic leveling system, no matter who the maker of the leveling system, has only so much travel in the jack system to try and achieve level.

  • Per HWH, it is not feasible to do an upgrade due to the custom harness that would have to be made and then getting all the various parts needed. They do not offer any type upgrade kit. Doug
  • I auto level almost every time. Almost every time, I go back to travel mode and start leveling manually. The rest of the time, I level manually.
Would not be worth the time or effort to me.
  • To upgrade
    1. You would have to replace the complete HWH wiring harness
    2. You would have to replace all 4 down switches
    3. You would have to install 4 pressure down switches. Each jack has this switch on the 625
    4. You would have to replace the touch pad
    5. You would have to replace the MAIN control PCB board.
    6. last, it would cost more to do that than to just replace the complete system as a unit rather than buy all the separate parts.
    7. HWH may sell the complete system minus the 4 jack cylinders which would save some money. Doug
  • Don't know the answer to your question but from an engineering standpoint, it sounds like a fun project. But expensive.

Here's a link to the PDF for your system: HWH 325 Jack System

A quick browse through that didn't turn up any 'optional' setup or additional equipment for 'Auto level' so you're looking at some new and expensive parts, plus all the wiring, plus expert installation, or a DIY'er type with mechanical & electrical expertise.

First step would be to call HWH and ask them if it can be done, what parts you need, the part numbers of the modules you'd need, etc.

Than you can call RV salvage yards and try to track down the parts, cables, and connectors needed.

Not impossible a project, but involved.
  • I had the 325 on my former MH , now I have the 625 ? auto-level system.
The upgrade would Not be on my list at all, many times,I stop the auto-level and
do the fine tweeking in Manual ,using a bubble level.
The cost of the upgrade is likely very high, not worth it in my opinion.

  • Very likely that you won't like the price.

I have auto leveling and never use it in the auto mode because "almost level" is good enough for me and I like to keep all the tires firmly on the ground for additional stability.

IF.....leveling would involve raising any of the wheels WAY off the ground and maybe require adding additional blocks under the hydraulics......I won't park there. Or maybe more accurately, I haven't found a situation yet where I HAD to park like that.
