Upgrade V-10 to Turbo?

Maybe you could do to your V10 like I did to my 460 Bounder. Add a stroker crank, RV cam, raise the compression ratio, Banks exhaust & a tuner. Never too much HP...................

A turbo V10 installed on a F53 is going to be a pretty rare item. I can't recall a kit type bolt on set up even for a F series truck let alone a F53. I'm sure it can be done but the cost will be high and the return low unless you're driving 10K+ miles a year in the Rocky Mountains.

Gonzo, my 5-star tuner backs up the original factory tune and will allow me to revert back to it whenever I want. I can then put the 5-star tune back in at a later date. Here in the Land of Taxation, I can pass the emissions test with the 5-start in place. BIL runs a truck shop with an emission lane so we tried it just to see.

I was considering the Banks system. I see the 5 star tuner is illegal in the People's Republic of California. Just as a matter of discussion, if the 5 star tuner is installed, could it be removed for the smog testing and would it not permanently cause a smog test failure or would it revert to factory tune?

Or upgrade to a diesel. They have a turbo and inter-cooler already.

I agree that adding a turbocharger without other modifications is going add heat to your engine which is one of the main reason engines fail.

I would not add a turbo as a stand alone mod. The exhaust manifold on the V-10 is iffy to begin with, adding more fuel males it hotter and will likely cause exhaust manifold studs, particularly the rear ones to fail quicker . Add a turbo to a Banks header system, lots of money but would have a better chance of success.

I bought the tuner and a 5 Star tune for our 2nd production unit, 2007 Four Winds, old Cruise America unit. Made a significant difference in fuel mileage and towing ability.

There was a guy on Ford Truck Enthusiasts. He did a home made turbo setup. That’s the only way you are going to get a turbo installed. However you are also going to have to do something with the trans. Stock.....it will not do good with the power.

With that said, a 5 star tune will really wake up a V-10. And depending on the gears that may be another place to put the money into.

Look at Banks Power Systems. Increased power significantly on our previous 2004 V10 with 2 valves.
