Good choice, that's the one I had in mind.

The lake in McCall & surrounding area is very nice, you won't be disappointed. If you can, take some time in McCall. Once you reach Cascade, take a brief detour ( about 2-city blocks off the main hwy )& go view the lake there. In Horseshoe Bend there is an old fashioned "Train Ride" you may also be interested in. In Boise, time permitting go see the "Old Penitentiary" just East side of town.

Yes your MH picture, its great. In Lewiston, Hells gate state is nice with full hook ups. Very hot it July and August. In McCall, Ponderous State Park is real nice, reservations are a good idea in the summer months. Lots to do in and around McCall. Unless their is some new RV parks in McCall, this is the only choice outside of boondocking. The others are typical right on top of each other spaces.

I took that route a few years ago. Just down shift and use your retarder or jake. I went to 2nd gear and never needed to touch the brakes. I live in the mountains and drive them all the time though. Do not worry about the log trucks. They will get around at the bottom of the hill. Also, watch your temps and downshift on the up hills too.

Dennis, I used to live in Boise and happened to traverse hwy 12 once from Lewiston, ID to Lolo, MT. This well paved, possible narrow road was the most exciting piece of road I have ever been on. For maybe a hundred miles the only thing different about the forest now and a thousand years ago is the hwy. I am talking "wild". Like many roads in Idaho, this one follows a river for much of its length with lots of places to pull off and spend the night. For a great distance there are no stores, no houses, nothing but wild. If this appeals to you, ask around. I did it in a truck camper 15 years ago.

The route you've selected is by far the most scenic. The Lewiston hill that folks are referring to is rather steep, but a very good highway.

Between new Meadows & McCall is a narrow highway, not too long, but doable if you take your time. You will also encounter two other narrow passages just South of Cascade, neither of which are very long.

Do you intend on staying over night in Boise? If so, I know of a nice RV park within a few miles of entering town, easy access once you've entered the city. The park is right along the river that runs through town & there is a Greenbelt running the full length, one side of Boise to the other.

@Obgraham...Google maps/earth is great to see the terrain. I use it often. However, I've never been able to find where it tells me about the "issue" with logging trucks and the like....just sayin...but, thanks for your input....Dennis
