Used a Macerator Pump for the first time...Cool Tool

I purchased a FloJet Portable Macerator Pump kit last week so I could clean out my tanks at home. I only needed to pump about 35 feet to a clean out and used a 3/4 inch hose. It emptied the tanks pretty quickly and after a few rinses using the built in tank flusher I was about 99.99 percent clean with clear water.

I usually dump at my last stop but always have some extra from the last driving day and I camp at least once a year where I do not have a dump option.

My wife thought I was crazy watching the clear extension tube....How else you gonna know its clean.

Sorry...just had to share the news. Pretty neat tool for a crappy job. Worth every penny to be able to clean the tanks well at home.

  • If I was worried about breaking the prongs on my macerator pump, I think I would get a short straight clear fitting and seal it to the pump and twist that onto the RV outlet.

  • I didn't purchase it to do it quickly. I purchased it to be able to take my time and do good cleaning after arriving at home. I do not have a clean out close enough to use the stinky slinky.

I also mostly stay at full hookup sites and dump there as well with the large hose. My last day driving is usually 300-400 miles and we use the tanks all the way home.

Thanks for the post on cleaning. I made sure it was flushed with clean water and I let it dry out before storing it back in the case.
  • No one else seems to have the problem I do with mine.... I use a 45-degree clear elbow to attach between the sewer outlet and the pump. First time I tried to twist it on the prongs on the pump bayonet all popped off. Fortunately FloJet replaced the housing under warranty.

But to not break it again, I filed down the little prongs on the elbow, but apparently too much so now it is not sealing well. It just seems that the housing on the pump is not to the same specs as standard bayonet products. Am I doing something wrong or have others encountered this? I even try to connect one of the red slinky hose ends to the pump and am afraid to twist it all the way to lock else I might break the pump housing again...
  • why do people consider emptying the black tank to be a race? I guess it makes sense if you use public dump stations, but I stay at a full hook up site every third night so I can dump at my convenience.

  • I too thought they where cool when I got my new coach......a bit of advice though. Every year you should take it apart and clean the blade. While in Florida this year, the macerator "crapped" out so to speak. I ended up taking it apart, a bit of a messy job and tried to clean it. The unit is 2 years old so I thought that would do it...nope! Back to the keep it simple stinky slinky for me. The "wow" factor wore off the first time I dumped the old style way(20 seconds and done) vs. the macerator which took about 2-3 minutes to dump the tank. If you have to pump up hill or long distances it is certainly a must have item.
  • yep, I don't know why folks keep messing around with the old stinky slinky. a macerator or sewer solution makes the rottenest job in RVing, almost pleasant.
