Hi!Looking at a few used roadtreks, one is 92 roadtrek 210 independent.The other van is a 95 Dodge Ram 3500 V8 magnum. I've read a bit, but mostly I am still in the dark as to the quality of older vans. The 92 roadtrek has 88k miles and is listed for 1300.The 95 dodge has 52k miles and is listed for 9500. How are the quality in the older roadtreks? Any tips for what I should be looking for outside of normal mechanical stuff? Thanks in advance- we are leaving in February to drive the pan American highway- I'm not in a rush to buy one yet as I want to get the best one I can.I am open to other class c's as well or other vans.

That's why the prices are so low.If you're going on the Pan American the very last thing you want is to break down and with the Dodge it's going to happen. Look for a newer one with a Chevy or Ford. Personally if I were doing the PanAm I'd look for a Mercedes Sprinter engine. It's going to cost more but you can always re-sell it. If you're going to do more camping after the PanAm, keep it and enjoy it.

I disagree with the opinion about the Dodge motors. We had a 96 Roadtrek V-190, with the Dodge engine. We drove it for almost 100,000 virtually trouble-free miles. We had to replace the fuel pump at about 75,000 miles. Otherwise everything was routine. I don't think the prices are too low for units that old. They can get a little shabby looking in 20 years. lizzie

I also don't agree with the opinion that Dodge engines are bad . We own a 2003 190P but it only has 65k miles . The reason i chose Dodge engine 318 is my uncle has a RT 170V 1996 and he has 200,000 miles on his Dodge 318 . The only thing engine related he has had to get done was a water pump replacement about 2 years ago . Other than that just regular maintenance . Lots of those Dodge vans are used for commercial vehicles so that's a strong indication of there tuffness.

There were very few problems with our 1996 Dodge 190V 5.9L engine. The Rear wheels had to have spacers in order to track in line with the front wheels. This was a common problem for the Chev, Ford and Dodge vans of that era. We replaced a fuel pump once and the oil pressure sensor twice, and a NEW chassis battery failed within two weeks of installation. Other than that the engine/chassis gave us over 150,000 miles during the 11 years we had it without any significant problems. Maintenance pays!

The 318 and 360 dodge engines have always gotten great reviews as to my knowledge.
I have had a few, all with good results.

Check Consumer Reports used car/truck issue. It confirms my experience of Dodge engines in those years.
