LOL...diesel verus gasser never seems to end...no matter where you land...TT's, 5'rs, Class-B's, Class-C's and Class-A's!...
We went DP because of the size/weight of the rig we were looking at.
I've come from many years of driving a 2V V10 in my Excursion and hauling a 9000# TT at 17,000#'s combined all over the country...been to and thru the rockies 3 times with that setup, tackled the Big Horns, Rockies, Appalachians, Smokies and some others...never found a hill I couldn't climb...including up and over Loveland at 11,200'...
The V10 is a great motor for sure...
In the 10's of thousands of towing miles...it never left me and my family stranded on the side of the road...very reliable!
The new 3V V10's (2005 and newer) with better HP/Trq and newer transmissions sure sound like a great engine/trans combo too!
In the few trips in our new to us DP...a couple of observations.
1) Normal conversations can be had between driver and passengers as the RPM's are at a very low level and the engine is miles behind you
2) Simple grades on flat Indiana interstates that I've towed countless times with the V10/4 speed trans that caused a downshift from OD don't seem to phase the DP even though we're rolling at over 34,000#'s today
I'd say there are obvious advantages and disadvantages to both choices and neither choice is right for everyone under all situations...individual needs, wants and desires are what will drive everyone to THEIR choice!
We've camped with willald and his family when both of us drove V10 Ex's and pulled TT's...we'll camp together again with both of us in MH's...the important thing...get something and enjoy this beautiful country!
Joe.
