Reduction at the transmission, a gasser will use 1st/2nd at 4000+ where the diesel will be in 3rd/4th at 1800-2000.
Thanks. However that would be reflected in towing guides as gassers being able to tow the same as the diesel. It just does not pencil out especially when on the road climbing a hill in the real world.
Don't forget, in general gassers are built lighter and have smaller CCC than the diesels of the same length. Our 36' with full fuel (100gal) and water (100gal) and camping gear/clothes for a week etc is just a bit over 25,000lbs, I still have ~3000lbs of CCC and enough tow capacity for my Jeep/trailer in addition to that. Which is why, in addition to having air bags for my wife's back, we went with a diesel ;-). Another thing is acceleration on hills, many of our 2 lane mountain roads have 25mph sharp turns at the bottom of steep hills, (Coal Bank, Molas pass anyone?) the torque really helps to accelerate back up to speed on the hills after these turns.
Bottom line they both have their places and both are perfect for someone.
