Value of DP and NADA private sales

Might want to sell my 2006 Gulfstream DP (upgrading but not trading in)

My question is selling a RV myself - I can see the NADA value - but in reality - how close to the NADA value can I expect?
  • We sold our '97 Beaver Monterey a couple months ago. The book value was about 5K. Check with a dealer or consignment lot (we used PPL)that has the ability to pull up actual sales for your rig. Pricing our rig based on those figures resulted in a sale at substantially higher price.

This is probably subject to the age of your rig, as I understand it, book value is often based on a fixed depreciation rate rather than actual sales data.
  • I agree that using eBay, PPL and other sources is probably a better guideline than NADA. NADA gives you a good approximation but I believe it's just a straight depreciation over MSRP so doesn't account for more popular models (e.g. from my observation, a similar year Fleetwood Discovery will sell for more than a National Tradewinds even though, IMO, arguably the Tradewinds is better built and gives you more for your money).

That said, condition of the mh and local market makes such a difference that it really depends on the actual mh and it's really up to you on how long you are prepared to have it for sale and what buyers in your area will pay.
  • Sold my HR Ambassador PRT 2 weeks ago. It was a 37 ft. DP. I advertized it on RV Trader. Used the $14.95, 14 day listing.

I looked up the NADA on mine using no options. The figures were:
    Ave. Retail- $83,970
    Low Retail- $69,700
I advertized it at $73,900 or best offer
    Sold it for $71,000

I had advertized it on RVTrader in April, 2013 for $78,900 OBO and did not get a offer. There is 1 other HR like mine with 40,000 miles advertized in Fl. for $68,900. Mine had 28,000.
A lot of "luck" is required. The couple that bought mine sold their 2005 Damon Astoria this past Friday and purchased mine on Tue. It only takes 1 but you have to find that 1. Also, I had the MH spotless. Washed and waxed. They both remarked about how clean it was.

Be prepared to lose money if you deal with a RV Dealer. La Mesa RV offered me $50,000 for mine. Need to sell it yourself and have it showroom ready when you market it.
  • NADA low retail is 83 percent of Average Retail. Wholesale/Trade In value is 74 percent of Average Retail. We went to two Central Texas Winnebago dealers to place our Itasca on consignment to sell. Both dealers offered to sell our RV at a set price to us of 90 percent of NADA wholesale value if our RV sold. PPL offered to list our RV for sale at the mid price between Low Retail and Average Retail with a consignment cost of 10 percent of selling price. PPL also told us that RV's are selling at about low retail.
  • it is running aobut 20 -25 percent below book. Sucks but that has been the case since 08 and not much of a change happening. If fuel goes up more it will be worse.
  • If you were to offer to buy RVs at NADA prices, be it retail, wholesale or whatever-sale, you would run out of money by the end of the day, even if your name was Bill Gates and you had Warren Buffett's money as a backup. You should not expect to get much more than 20 to 25% below NADA wholesale, with no adds calculated into that value. Even then, it might be a long process to find a willing buyer with money.
  • Check on eBay, COMPLETED auctions, to find a coach close to yours and see what they actually sold for. Asking price and sales price are two different things. I would guess that if you want to sell in a hurry, that the lower end of NADA price is where you should be. pricing it higher just means that you may have to wait a long time to find a buyer.
