Vinyl Covering Coming Loose from Dash

The vinyl covering is coming loose on my 2000 HR Endeavor (gas model).
I suspect it has shrunk due to the high heat here in Texas. It is mostly loose on the front of the dash facing the the driver and passenger areas, below the instrument panel, radio, heater controls and below the glove box area.

I have tried using 3M spray adhesive with not much success due to the shrinkage of material. Just wants to pull away again.

I am sure lots of you have or had this issue on older rigs. Anyone successfully made this repair?

I am thinking I will need to remove the entire covering and start over. Need any insight you have had in the this repair including what adhesive you used.

Thanks,

Michael

  • Thanks for the replies but neither address my original post. The top of the dash where you would put a cover is in great condition. The portion just in front of your knees is my problem area. This dash area is not padded, the vinyl is glued straight to the fiberglass dash.

Thanks and hopefully someone has dealt with this issue.

  • I would recommend a Dash cover and not bother with repair. Go to Dash covers by Josie on the Internet.
  • This is a common problem with older vehicles and padded dashes. As you suspect, heat and sunlight makes the vinyl shrink and get hard. Check with someone that does auto and truck restoration.
