Planning a trip to NYC I read that there is a campground in NJ that is nice. Thinking of staying i NJ and tacking my tow to NY/Brooklyn. Any recommendations?

Liberty Harbor RV ParkIsn't much more than a parking lot with power and water hookups but does one visit NYC for the camp ground amenities? Haven't been there myself but planning on a Fall 2017 trip.

But I would park Class A and toad and take the train from NJ to Penn Station NYC if you want to tour all of Manhattan. You'll pay $50/day to park at a hotel in Manhattan and you don't want a car to get around either.If you have a specific place to visit with parking available in NYC, that's different.

Another possibility is camping at Floyd Bennett Field (in Brooklyn on Jamaica Bay). Getting there with an RV would be a bit of an adventure for sure. Connections to public transportation are not bad, though; a bus that connects to subway stations goes by the park entrance (which is maybe a half mile from the campground).The RV sites at Floyd Bennett are parking spots with picnic tables--there are no hookups, nor even a dump station from what I can tell.

Any recommendations?We did NY from conn. and stayed not far from a train station there. The train took us into Grand Central in Manhattan. Can't imagine getting anywhere near the city with the coach or the toad. Won't even go near there on the way out and always swing up towards White Plains and over into NJ for making a wide swing around it all, whether going south on the coast or heading west from that area. Same thing going north and since we're about done with the cities, we stayed on I81 for the most part, for going to RI, this summer. Working our way back south now and by way of WV.

Liberty Harbor works very well. The camping facilities are minimal and it is expensive but the location is great. Nice view of the city and Statue of Liberty. It's a very short walk to the train station (office staff provides details) which takes you to the 9/11 museum in minutes, or on weekdays there is comuter ferry service also into the city (Wall Street area) which is a pleasant ride, if you stay elsewhere, you'll have a very long ride in.
