- tatestExplorer IIAt this time, because the van needs to be DOT/EPA certified, and to cover the cost of that VW would have to import it and try to sell it here. VW did so with the previous generation, but could not sell enough to make money against the cost of supporting it.
The VW camper van last hit our shores in the T4 generation. It was the Westfalia conversion (before Daimler bought Westfalia) and was sold through and serviced by Winnebago, who was building Rialtas and conventional C's (Winnebago Vista, Itasca Sunstar) on the T4 platform.
Importation ended when the T4 was replaced by the T5 on the global market. - DownTheAvenueExplorer

Because they would not sell in quantities that would make the endeavor profitable - RobertRyanExplorer

In England, VW sells a pre-upfitted camper van called the California, the higher trim model going for about $66k (USD converted). Only thing it doesn't have is a bathroom and shower.

Very similar to my Sisters Kombi/ Transporter that she is having built. I do not know the colour, but interior will be similar, no bare wood finish
