I will be going from Wall, S.D. to Mount Rushmore and would like to go thru the Badlands. Does anyone know if I can make it with a 35' motor home towing a Jeep? Looks like I can take the North Rim road, any suggestions?
Thank you!
yup, no problem...but...do NOT take the branch road to the prairie dog town with your MH. the last time we were on that road it was a rutted washboard nightmare in the MH. the main road thru the park is paved but depending on the time of year you may find parking at the turnouts problematic with your MH/toad, though. why not just extend your stay in Wall for one more night and take the toad through the park and to the prairie dog village or...park the MH at the visitor center (plenty of big rig parking there), disconnect and run the toad thru the park?
while you're at it you can also take a tour of a Minuteman Missle Silo. the visitor center is just off I-90 at the same exit for the eastern entrance to the Badlands Natl Park. you sign up for the tour there and then are bused to the actual site.
Information above is very accurate. Either side of the loop is good for a motorhome as we have done it a number of times. If you decide to stay a night the KOA in Interior is pretty nice with full hookups. Also if you decide to take the road from Interior to Hill city it is a very good road for a motorhome and is a pretty drive. Of course you will want to stop at Wall; a must see as it has to be Americas largest tourist trap.
