Wally vs 211Z

Anyone have experience using a Wally in an RV out West? I see reviews saying it has issues when it cannot find 3 satellites and that the 211Z is still the better choice for campers. I'm having issues with my old 211 displaying full screen pictures properly on newer TVs and assume the newer Wally probably has that issue resolved.
  • 1 Wally on either a Winegard Mission Roadtrip or a (original) Dish Tailgater. Both work fine.

Tried to setup my Wally on the Roadtrip but that was a failure. Wally would not download programming. Switched to the Tailgater, it took several hours to download/update but it did update. Then when I switched to the Roadtrip, it worked fine.
  • Yes ,Wally's initially had some problems if they couldn't see 3 sat on start up. Its old news. That was resolved some time ago (year?years?) No problem anymore.
I have one 211Z and one wally ..I also have a 211K not in use... I like the wally interface better and the wally remote is RF (Radio Frequency) Through walls not IR (Infrared) line of sight
  • My bedroom TV only has a coax connection to the front of the main tv. Since I only use 1 receiver I need a receiver with a coax output in addition to an HDMI. I like the VIP 211K.
  • I couldn't imagine why the Wally would have the issues you stated since any satellite receiver only interprets whatever signal it sees at it's satellite input. The receiver only indicates when a properly pointed satellite antenna is locked in to all 3 satellites, and if sat signal is sufficient it will download and properly display subscribed programming.

We have no issues with our VIP 211 receivers in terms of displaying video content exactly as our Hopper does at home, no variance whatsoever on the two HDTVs mounted in our rig. When video on an HDTV is not displayed or formatted properly it is primarily due to insufficient signal where only SD video can be viewed, problem is usually weak signal from outlying satellites.
  • I have two Wallys in my coach and haven't had any problems in the west where I spend most of my time.
  • I have had two Wally's since they came out. Haven't had any problems with them. I am using a Trav'ler dish and we are in the west 90% of the time.
