I guess we could intersect with 75 and go north and then cut over to Louisville and up. I know it is the mountains but wonder if they are an issue better to avoid.
Not sure if this is what you are after but when we wander around in NC we almost always end up with Asheville and Lake Toxaway on the route. The Biltmore and the Lake have always been just great!
If you are not comfy driving on mountain roads this might not be for you but for us always an adventure to see and touch this area. when we were younger we would shop for furniture in the High Point and Hickory area and that was always fun.
With all the lakes and mountains you will never lack for beautiful spots to stay - we would usually ask the locals for local insight on the best spots.
