Warped Awning Roller

This past weekend my awning got slammed with rain water even though it was tilted. When I came back from a neighbors I had a belly full of water. Got that dumped out but the roller is warped from the weight so much I barely got it rolled back up when we were ready to leave. It is a 24' awning with about a 1" to 2" bow. Is there any repair for this or is it replacement only. I thought about trying to ratchet a tie down to it and warping it back in shape but I am looking for ideas that might be out there. I'm sure I'm not the first DA that has done this.
  • I've had good luck straightening a few bent (not kinked!) awning tubes over the years. My technique calls for supporting both ends of the tube on ladders high enough to leave some slack in the fabric with the bend on top. Then I just grab the center of the tube from each side with my hands spread a bit, and hang my body weight down until the tube passes just a little below straight before letting go. Depending on the length and severity of the bend, I may even bounce a little if needed, being careful not to over do it. I use a string to check the tube as I go. I've never destroyed a tube doing this, although it hasn't always been completely successful either. Even in those cases though, it was significantly improved, allowing the awning to roll up normally. It costs nothing to try...

I've straighten aluminum ones bent worse than that but I had to take it off. A steel tube one with that little can be straighten, but getting enough force will be hard without cutting a small hole in the fabric to get the strap around it. Guess you could fill it back up with water with the bow facing out.
  • I like your idea, but I,d take it down and do it on a flat area. it can be done just need some elbow grease.
  • New awning tube is your best choice. Can be ordered from any dealer that carries or sells your awning brand.
