While I agree the money has to come from somewhere it's a little unfair to target RV owners who represent a very small population of state park users. Few state parks are camping parks and of those even fewer can accommodate motorhomes of any size.

I already pay a rapid transit excise tax on my motorhome that started at $900 per year. That tax alone is unfair in that it taxes every vehicle in your family (I have 3) for a benefit limited to just a few. So, I'm not exactly excited about another tax.

Everyone uses our parks, not just RV's. I'm not sure yet just why the current Discover Pass isn't generating the needed offset, but there's a lot of seemingly accurate accusations of fund mismanagement that should be addressed prior to hitting us with an added tax.

Yes, it's been unpopular from the beginning when it was attached to just one of your vehicles .. at least it can be used in two now. If the Discovery Pass is unpopular, wait till folks get their arms around this new proposal!

The problem with these so called tax to fund a certain item as in state parks is that all we tax payers see or hear of is what catches our attention. New tax to fund state parks. What you as a tax payer does not see is all the other 300 or so pages of items attached to the tax laws. After all is done what you voted for may not yeild anything towards what you actually agreed to. Just my expmeriance with these as&¥)÷ politicians. Larry

I agree with you Larry! And, since this is a State Park everyone in the State should contribute if there is going to be a tax! Not a select few!

Just pass a bond and bill it to homeowners. Thats what they do here in CA.

Thanks Juan, I down loaded the report! I like you support the Washington State Parks! I have Washington State Park License Plates on my motorhome and my tow car. I pay $40.00 each plate per year to the State Parks and I donate $5.00 X-2, on my license fee renewal to go to Washington State Parks. That's $90.00 per year and I've yet to use a State Park RV site this year. IMHO, everyone in the State should share in these fees not a select few!

They have plenty of tax money to spend on their pet or choice programs. They want sin taxes, on bottled water and those with RVs to pay for more. They should shift money around to where it benefits State Residents and Visitors who pump millions or more into their economy. Michigan requires a bank loan if you visit all their parks. However some of the choice County Parks are restricted to Residents, of the area. Remember when Macinac was a Federal Park? Now it is nothing but a source of funds, from hot dog, candy, ice cream etc stands and horse rides, of course. The money goes to fund pet and choice projects, of Politicians, and Developers. It belongs to the Citizens, of the state, in name only and the big money that has 99 year leases on homes. Shortage, of operating funds is bs. there is a shortage because they enginnered it that way.

In traveling across the country, I am always puzzled as to what WA does with its tax revenues. Other states, with much lower fuel tax, have much nicer roads and their state parks are moderately priced and better maintained. I was shocked to see camping fees of $42 a night :E at Yakima Sportsman state park this year.

Remember that there is no state income tax.

I grumbled at first but it does make sense for us RV buyers to help pay for the parks we enjoy so much.
Unless it's outrageously expensive, I don't really mind it.
