Water Heater Leaks to Inside

Seems my water heater leaks water to the inside of motorhome when ever I flush it. No leaks any other time. Appears that when I remove the drain plug it sprays all over including inside the heating chamber. Could be leaking from heating chamber. Anyone else have this happen?
  • To keep it from spraying, open your hot and cold faucet inside to release the water pressure before removing the plug on the hot water heater.
  • Recalk. And use aluminum foil to make a trough to channel water from the drain away from the side of the RV.
  • Need to seal/recaulk WH outside frame............

IF the heating chamber was leaking water inside rig then combustion gases would also becoming into rig plus water as combustion chamber runs thru the middle of tank surrounded by water in tank (that's how it transfer the heat to the water) OR water in tank would flood combustion chamber if there was a leak.

You need to seal up the WH frame...and probably seal around where the propane line comes thru. Wouldn't hurt to seal area around drain plug.

And stay with the OEM drain plug.....if Atwood use the nylon plug (aluminum tank/threads). If Suburban you need the anode rod which is art of the drain plug.
