I did this https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0050EITTK/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1 a couple of years ago in Texas where we had really hard water. If you're considering one location I suggest testing the water first.
Back in Texas I regenerated it with two cans of plain salt every two weeks.
