Would like to know the best way to remove water stains. Have had the the roof completely sealed, but now I need to clean the over head inside.

Blutoyz, when you see the mouse fur you'll know why everyone calls it that, though I don't doubt jplante4 with the proper name of Ozite. No ribbing to the mouse fur, just a very close short knapp white fuzzy material. Like I said before, the Oxy Clean removed all of my water stains it.

I have the Folex landing from Amazon today and if that doesn't cut it the Oxyclean will be next....Thanks

This "mouse fur" is called Ozite. I tried all the home made remedies for de-staining after my roof leak and nothing worked. In addition, the Ozite was detached from the Lauan ceiling material, so I ended up removing the Ozite, bleaching it and re-attaching with heavy duty fabric adhesive.

Funny...in the flooring business and never even used the term...it is the ribbed I/O carpet I was thinking of....thanks

  • Thanks for this thread...I have the same thing. I don't know what "mouse fur" is though, my ceiling is basically ribbed I/O carpet
  • I had water stains on my mouse fir ceiling on my previous rig. Used Oxyclean on a clean white cloth and blotted off the stains very easily. Never know they were there.

I used oxyclean laundry stain remover. Spray it on, let it sit for a few minutes, blot it off-- repeat as needed.
  • If the ceiling is covered with that kind of fabric.

I have had great luck with Folex,on my ceilings just spray it on and BLOT don't rub,you will be amazed at how it lifts out the stains.

It may take more than one application but it took out all of my stains.

You can get it at most big box home improvement stores or Amazon check out the reviews and pictures.
  • If you have the typical "mouse fur" ceiling material, I've found the Chlorox general purpose spray cleaners to work well. Just spray it on and let it sit for a few minutes before scrubbing/wiping with a rag. Be careful of the over spray though, so it doesn't get on anything it shouldn't. I usually hold a spread out rag right under where I'm spraying.
