Water systems

What do you folks use to chlorinate your water system. I heard to use Clorox but that really stinks.
  • Interesting, Jim. I use a higher percent of bleach but your guy appears to be an expert.
  • I love wearing my bio suit! Scares all the children in the campground.
  • a follow up with white vinegar usually cures the Clorox smell. That has worked for us.
  • I'm with rk911. Pretty much the same with me.

Aside from that, many RVers totally over chlorinate their tanks. Here's what a professional chemist who worked at city water treatment plants his entire career says about your fresh water system:

Troubled System (smells, floating stuff): 0.13 * Tank size = oz of bleach to add to the tank (Ex: 7.8 oz/60 gal)

Preventative Maintenance: 1 oz bleach / 60 gallons.

    Remove average smells: 1 & 1/2 cup vinegar / 60 gallons.

Sweeten water: 1/2 cup baking soda / 60 gallons.

RK, are you sure you are still....where? Lol

lol...currently in dayton, ohio but i meant it in the sense that we're still vertical and aware of it despite not chlorinating our fresh tank each year. i also don't wear gloves or a bio-suit when dumping my tanks. oh, and we drink tap water, too. :)
  • Get your water in the spring at a campground that has chlorine in the water. We run into a few every year.

haven't done that in nearly 20-yrs. we're still here. :B
  • Clorox does smell a little, yes, but after sanitation the lack of the slight smell means the system is flushed. There are other ways but Clorox is cheap and available.
  • W use the familiar CAMCO product from CW or Wally World.
There are other brands but I don't know where to find them.
It is chlorine designed for drinking water not bleaching clothes.
