OK thanks again for all the input. I checked the batteries with my meter with the shore power plugged in and it was at 13.56 so I figured with the charger going it should start. It made a more rapid clicking like it was trying harder but still did not run. I started the engine and then hit the switch and it started right up...so it certainly is something to do with the house batteries.
How do you load test? Do I have to take them out and to a shop? I have a hydrometer which I will use to see if there is a cell that is flaky. I know you have to let them sit after on a charger so they can settle down before testing. When I first got these batteries we went out for a two month trip and about 8000 miles and never had a problem starting the generator with the engine off. I do know now that it doesn't hurt to start it with the engine running to just make sure it gets good "juice". Batteries should last much longer than 3 years!!! I have always maintained them....they are not cheap...ugh!
