BTW, I have noticed that generator will usually start using the start switch on generator itself, when it won't start from the switch at power panel.
It depends on how the genny is wired. Mine is wired directly to the battery so the OEM battery disconnect will not affect the genny. If you have a battery disconnect switch right on the battery, that will do as you say.
