The pretty pink curtains in our '99 Roadtrek 190P are great for privacy, but do nothing to stop incoming light. In order to sleep past daybreak, I removed the curtains and had a professional seamstress sew in light-blocking fabric on the outside of the curtains. Now the interior of the van is quite dark, and an added benefit was it helped to insulate the van a little more as well.
The curtains are a little stiff, but they still slide up and down and side to side just fine.
