During my sofa bed modification, I took out the TV. And then we decided that we didn't need it (heresy?), so I then removed the DVD player. Today I delved into the Winegard Antenna manual, which showed me what I needed to know - and removed the antenna. Interestingly, the gear shaft was bent and the 3 washers that were supposed to be on the shaft were missing. The plastic plate that was screwed into the ceiling inside was cracked and fell apart as it was unscrewed.
The metal plate on the roof was not taken off, so I had to come up with a seal for the shaft hole. One of those little caps that come on the ends of in line potable water filters, the rigid blue platic type not the soft white type, fit the the inside of the hole. I then took a 4 litre jug cap and fitted it over the outside. Pulled the two off and filled them with sealant and put them on again. Inside the RT, I rolled up a 2 inch wide strip of packing foam and twisted it into the shaft hole. Since the plastic plate was broken, I covered a piece of cardboard with duct tape and cut a circle the size of the broken plate. Then I screwed the circle to the ceiling using the original screws and holes.
Only one downside, I had to cut the antenna cable, because there was no way to get the cable through the holes of the antenna leg without taking the connector fastening off. I will worry about that if I re-install the antenna. Less weight, less drag, more room!!!
