Mr. Priestlake, you didn't mention if you are looking at new or used. We have towed two Honda CR-V's putting at total of 121,000 miles on the 2007 (69,000 miles of driving, 52,000 miles of towing).
Our 2013, we currently have a total of 68,000 miles (35,000 miles of driving, 53,000 miles of towing).
As mentioned, 2014 is the last year to tow automatic transmission Honda's that are approved for towing.
The reason why I like a small SUV vs. a car is that, the vehicle sits a little higher than a sedan. If we have to center over a piece of rubber or any object, the likelihood of it getting hung-up under the tow vehicle is much less.
Over the years, we have dodged a lot of 'stuff' on the interstate (rubber tire pieces, ladders, lawn chairs, brooms, shovels, chains, debris, etc.). So far, nothing has damaged the Honda. Most of the things listed I was able to go around them.
Good luck on your search,
MM.
