The reason some less than serious answers are appropriate here is that this question has been asked and answered literally dozens of times on this forum. I've yet to hear any new arguments either for or against guncarrying. My conclusion is simply "some do, some don't".
Sort of like the various topics to do with DP vrs gas, the hundreds of tires topics on which brand is the best, DirecTV vrs Dish, when are tires too old, and so on, for any of the many many topics that are repeated on this forum. - OnaQuestExplorer

And just what is the value of the OPs question, or ANY of the answers? Zilch, nada, zero....Mr.Mark wrote:

Someone please pass me the popcorn? These threads always get very entertaining.
Anyone want to take bets on how many pages it goes before it gets ugly enough that a moderator has to lock it down? :B

I wouldn't blame a moderator for taking it down considering some of the replies given here. The OP asked a simple question and if you can't or won't answer it with a simple reply, then don't. No one is forcing you to answer.
F105, well, if you have been around as long as some of us, you would understand.... that's why I gave a joking answer.
But you know, if the moderators would allow it and the posters were honest and not trying to act like 'mister tough guy' with bizarre answers, I would like to know what actual situations people have been in and what did they do.
Honestly, we have not had any real problems since we have been motorhoming. A keen eye and logic is 99% of it.
But a separate thread with real life situations, I think, would be advantageous to the regular RV'er to know what has happened to our fellow RVing crowd.

I have quite a few options but I usually carry a 45 handgun. While a shot gun is the ultimate deterrent, at the range someone would be a threat it would make an awful mess. After a lifetime of camping and working in some relatively rough and wild areas I found you rarely ever are confronted with one perp, typically it’s three. So I consider bats, tazers and such as useless. And a long gun is awkward in tight quarters or sitting around the campfire.
I’ve never had to draw one in 50 years of camping. But on at least three occasions my well developed sense of a threat was deafening and I was glad I had it. On the other hand, at home in the city I’ve had four occasions I recall where someone was trying to break in and once I came home early from work and had a burglar at gunpoint in the bedroom. So I think msmith1199,s post is right on the money.
My youngest son is in his early thirties and likes to shoot occasionally but isn’t into guns like I am. So I was a little surprised years ago when he asked me for a handgun to keep at the house. And not long ago he reminded me of an incident when he was young where someone was working on a kitchen window to break in. He was scared to death and it made a big impression on him that I was calmly sitting in the darkened kitchen with my handgun on the table waiting. And he realized he shouldn’t be scared, the guy outside should be.
So my thought is if someone has the means and temperament to protect themselves they have that right. And if they are willing to trust in faith it won’t happen to them they also have that right.
So don't keep us guessing. Did you should him when he got the window open? - TerryallanExplorer II

This is a very interesting question. I have no weapons but have been urged to get at least one while we RV. So many of you do have weapons. I am curious how you have had to use them. Obviously actually shot someone but also used it to scare potential threats off. With all this need for protection there must be many stories of break ins while in your RV or other circumstances where you used your gun. That leads me to the next question. Based on experience is it better to have a large rifle or a pistol?
Never used mine, Except for fun, and HOPE, and PRAY I never have to use it for anything else. But like the lady that stopped the mob from killing that driver yesterday. I can. Kind of the point. - Francesca_KnowlExplorerProtection from what?
