What do you use as a stop here marker?

We had our driveway extended for the motorhome and it now ends with about a 30 inch drop off!

The concept for us is to drive up to a certain point from the edge, which of course you can’t see, then place the boards under the tires and drive up on them.

My first thought was to take my wife’s potted plant that has a 6 foot high solar light coming out of it and place it at the point where if the mirror is next to it it is time to put the boards down. I don’t even want to talk about “the look” I got from Shirley for that idea.

OK, I’m open to any suggestions! What do you use as a stopping point when the end of your driveway is a drop off?

  • You could use a barb wire fence t-post as a marker, pound into the dirt next to the edge of the driveway, at a point that when you pull some part of the vehicle even with it, you know to stop.
  • I bedded 6 9' railroad ties as pads than attached 3/4" plywood to the ties for the tires. In the back I than used a couple of pieces of 4X4 as wheel stops. Worked well for me until I built the barn on the other side of the house.
  • I park the TT on 2x2 concrete pads that where placed/leveled on the gravel driveway extension we added for the trailer. I have a pressure treated landscape timber (3x5), pinned with rebar, strategically placed to "stop" the wheel at the center of the 2x2.

Total cost was less than $10.00.

Would work equally as well with a concrete or asphalt driveway, but a hammerdrill would be required to make the holes. No you can't borrow mine.

I park my truck next to it by stopping when my mirror gets to the fridge vent....otherwise I back into the shed. This spot still allows me to open one shed door fully, the other one partially. I can even get my tailgate down.

Don't ask me what happens if I forget the tailgate is down & overshoot my stopping spot....not a dent, just a ding.

Put something tall in the ground on the driver's side....so as you drive towards the drop off....you look left out your side window and when the stick lines up with your nose. Cease and desist.
  • You could paint a line on the driveway at a certain point so that you will know it's time to stop and put down the boards.

That way, a portable marker will not mess you up if it gets moved.

    Safe travels,
