What happened to my mirror, Why, and what's the fix?

I walked out to driveway this afternoon and saw a round black cap laying on the driveway next to our motorhome.
I picked it up and thought to myself, "What did this come off of"?
Looked around and didn't see anything and then glanced up at the door of the motorhome and noticed the mirror was hanging askew.

Whatever broke, did so with the motorhome at rest. It was hot here today (around 92....heat index around 100) but didn't think it would have caused anything to break. The mirror isn't in the direct afternoon sun.

What's the fix for this?

This sounds like a problem that was seen a few years ago at our Lazy Daze Caravan campouts. It was likely due to a Velvac design or manufacturing problem.

If you can't access the pdf file which describes the problem, I can email a copy.

  • No, no kids around here.
It happened this afternoon and we were out and about in the yard so nobody messed with it.

The mirrors are always folded in when it's parked at home.
  • I have to agree that maybe someone pulled down on it, like kids sometime do,it happened to a friend of mine.

They seem to be Velvac mirrors and they can be bought from them or a few other vendors, sometimes cheaper.

I always fold mine in while parked to lessen the chance of a kid swinging on them.
  • Mine has a nut that holds the mirror to the bracket, it would loosen periodically so I put some thread locker on it. Yours appears to have broken where the retaining nut should be. I guess you need a new arm assembly.
