It looks pretty good for a home built RV. I also think it was built by a small obscure company.
I'm assuming you could not see inside or talk to the owner? Maybe it had some type of identifying plate or marker.

Was it just sitting in a field? I don't see any windshield wipers so I'm guessing it was not licensed or operational.
If it was a modified step van or other truck it would have wipers.
And, is that a door at the front passenger seat?

Please keep us updated if you make an identification. I like vintage motor homes.
