In 2002 we towed 1990 Honda Accord from Texas to Anchorage and back without brakes without incident. I know that is not considering having a tow dolly but we were able to go up and down some pretty steep grades using the engine transmission to slow us along with the brakes. Our MH then was a 1999 Bounder with the V10. Loud and slow up and nice and slow down. What a great trip.
This is a Ford V10 also. Coming down the mountain the engine slowed it but braking was still needed last month, and we were NOT towing anything. It would pickup speed quickly. I'm picturing how much faster it's going to go down with almost 3000 lbs pushing it from behind. He's making this miserable for me. What should be fun and something to look forward to has become something I dread.
I think you can go wherever you want with your rig as long as you are aware of your limitations and plan ahead, but now that we have brake assist on the car it makes it safer to travel. Drive on, have a good time and get brakes whenever you can.
He has no idea what the limitations are with the Coach. We only have it maybe a month and took one trip. And he refuses to take it to a mechanic as we did with the older Class-C he wanted and bought 2 years ago. They found several issues they fixed. After getting the Class-C the way we wanted, and spending thousands on repairs and upgrades, he decided he wanted a Class-A. So he sold it at a loss of at least $6,000 if not more. He's starting to hide things from me now.
