What to look for during road test

I am looking at MH's in the 30' range but haven't driven a MH in 5 years. I know when I go for a test drive in one now, I'll probably be rusty and a little nervous, so my concentration will be focused just on driving the darn thing. What should I try to look and/or listen for during a road test? Do you do anymore than just take it out on the highway and drive around for a while, and how long of a drive do you suggest?

Thanks for your help.
  • Bill,

The reality is that all coaches drive well in moderate speed, smooth road, no strong side wind conditions.

It is only when everything is NOT ideal that you can "separate the men from the boys".

Not suggesting you don't drive all those on your short list, but also look at things like Wheelbase/Overall length ratio, etc.

If you can find one or more " adverse" conditions and test them all under that condition, all the better.

I can remember when we were looking at coaches at the FMCA Convention in Redmond, OR, years ago, I laid out a narrow, back road to do the test drive on. Drove our "current at that time" coach and then all those on our short list. An FMCA convention is one of the few venues where you can back to back drive all those on your short list. VERY eye opening!
