What toad is small enough to carry on the back of a Class A?

Okay so here is the question. We bought our first "monster" (to us) 32' Class A Motorhome. We could tow our son's car that we acquire in a week, but we are already overwhelmed a little with getting comfy with the 32'. (Formerly a TT owner.)

What kind of vehicle is "street worthy," if that is the best term... that is TINY? I wish we could mount something on the back of the MH. I have a feeling you guys are laughing now, but I'm serious. Is there any kind of tiny electric car or anything that we could use on regular roads? Usually we just run a couple of miles ... down to right across the street, to and from a campsite to a Nascar track. But also sometimes from a parking lot to a music venue.

Wish it could be a little golf cart, but are they allowed on city streets? I'd think not, but not sure. They are all over Nascar tracks, but I've also heard they are only allowed for the owner/drivers... and I've read some track rules that say NO GOLF CARTS ALLOWED AT ALL! Hmmm.

We have a small car... a Volks GTI that we could tow... but that adds so much length, when we are already not acclimated to the new length. Looked at a car trailer, but that's really long. I guess if we do the GTI, it will have to be a Tow Dolly. But I'm hoping there is some nifty little car that we can attach to the back of the Class A and go. D

I'm a Dreamer, right????

Thanks, as always for your kind replies. I'm really trying here and hit a dead end.

  • Don't be too concerned with getting the "smallest possible" toad.
Once you get more comfortable with driving your unit, you'll realize that towing isn't as ominous as you thought it would be.
Amazingly enough, the toad goes exactly where YOU do! :) We tow an HHR, about 3,000lbs, and we don't even know it's there, other than leaving the backup/rearview camera on so I can monitor what's going on back there. The backup camera also helps with things like lane changes when towing...takes the guess work out of it as you can clearly see when you've got enough room to move into another lane.
Remember, there are 100s of thousands of people towing cars behind RVs every day. They do not have super powers...they are not much different than you are :)
It's sort of like the perception of flying. If you've never done it, you think it must be incredibly difficult. Talk to pilots and they'll tell you that if you can drive a standard shift car, you can pretty much fly an airplane ;)

    Happy Trails,

  • I too wanted THE smallest and the lightest car to tow behind my MH.
    I found a used Chevy Tracker, 4x4, 4 door.

I 'think' that is the lightest one out there. I am sure some one will correct me if I am wrong!

I liked the 4-door Tracker because it allowed me to seat 5 people and still have storage area behind the back seat. And when the back seat was put down, well that gave me tons more room to store stuff while traveling in the MH.

Tows 4 down like a dream and you nor you MH will know she's back there. JMHO

Check out escapees.com classified section. This is a full timers forum and there are tons of great deals on 'already set up for towing' toads for sale. No need to join Escapees to use their forum and classified searches just join the forum. Good Luck.
