When have I reasonably earned a state sticker?

Just got a US state sticker map. Idea is that the kids can put stickers on the map (mounted on RV) as we travel through other states.

My question is; is there a commonly accepted rule of thumb that describes how far you drove through, or time spent in a state before you've "earned" the sticker?

For example, we visited four corners last summer. We drove in from New Mexico, but we "visited" Utah, Colorado and Arizona at the same time. So, sticker for all of those states?

I've heard some people say that they only put a sticker on if they camped in the state. Others say one inch into the state and you're good. And other folks will put a sticker up if, God forbid, they flew into the state.

    Oh, man.
Years ago I drove my F450 on I-15 that cuts 15 miles on the corner of AZ.
Since with my load I drove via weigh station, they charged me $15 for using commercial truck on AZ roads.
Shall I file AZ tax return and claim the expense?

If you've driven it recently during the construction mess they have going through the canyon you probably should claim it as a state of residence since that small strip can take a lifetime to get through some days. You never no when you'll get to drive through without interruption vs parking and turning off the engine for a couple hours.
  • If you have driven your motorhome into a State for the first time the sticker goes on the map!

  • I passed through Rhode Island but did not camp there. I did add my RI sticker though.

I believe you answered your own question with your last paragraph. There is no hard and fast rule. Although I never heard of adding a state sticker for just flying over that state.

As for myself, we do not add state to our collection until we actually camp over night in that state.

  • Red,

It's your map. Use the rules you like.
We have not had any RV in all the states colored in. We have spent time in every one of those over the years.

  • If you can spell the state correctly you have earned the sticker.:B

Sorry, I've been looking at grade school awards recently, and saw the article in Elkhart about the term "Skilled Labor" as someone who shows up for work.

I wouldn't put it on the camper unless I have camped there.:C
