When is a new RV not new?

Before taking delivery of a new Winnebago Via, my test drive revealed an abnormal noise when the accelerator was depressed, which went away immediately when I let up on the accelerator. Dealer sales staff and mechanics agreed it needed fixing and sent it to the local Winnebago dealer, who replaced the drive shaft first, and then the differential. While the problem is now fixed, I am wondering if this should still be viewed as a new vehicle. And would that view be different if the differential, for example, was a rebuilt unit. I'd appreciate hearing from any members who have been through similar situations, and what they did and why. I'm also wondering how this affects the warranty.

  • It became used when the ink dried. I did use it to drive home.

To emphasize that. We refied ours after about 2 months, when the claim check came in for the stolen MH. It required an inspection. When writing notes the inspector siad it was in good condition. When asked why, he said he was not allowed to put excellent on anything that had been driven off the original dealers lot.
  • It became 'used' when you registered the vehicle.

As for the repairs.......done under warranty and are covered until end of warranty.
  • It should be a new unit and they should not have used a rebuilt differential. I would not have accepted that. I'm buying new so I want new. And it should have no impact at all on the warranty. As we just went through in a very long thread on here, there are not too many new motorhomes sold that don't have a list of items that need to be repaired. In my motorhome things I found within the first three days were: Generator overheated and shut down (Cause was a kinked cooling hose), wind sensor on the awning didn't work, turn signals didn't work, and then there was list of minor cosmetic items. Everything was eventually fixed by the dealer.
  • Not sure why you would categorize a minor repair as something that
would make the RV "Used". If that were the case, then there would be very few "New" RV's on the road.

Glad you found the problem before taking delivery.
