I'm looking at getting a used class a soon, and if I could find one with a dt466 I'd be ecstatic. I'm having a tough time finding info on which makes and models came with a dt466.

I can't think of a single Motorhome that had an International DT 466 !

DT 466, is that a inline 6 or the Ford V8 built by International?There are only a few dozen truck based International 'super C' motorhomes built each year on the International chassis. You might find a custom made Ford F-650 based truck motorhome with the 6.4L diesel V8. For inline 6 cylinder, Monaco I think was bought by International, and they started installing inline 6 International engines. IS that what you are looking for?Good luck,Fred.

Do not know of any As... Super C yes. While the DT 466 is a good engine it's a fairly old design and lacking in horsepower so not sure why you would be a ecstatic. You will only find it in box trucks at 210 hp. I have a good long block for sale if you need one and if it would make you happy. The Cummings ISC engine or the older 8.3 L Cummings is a much better engine with a lot more horsepower.

I have a series 40 in mine. It's basically the same as the 466.Here is one for sale.

yeah, that's where I first found out about them. THey're the most desirable motors in the school busses. I've kicked around the idea of a school bus conversion, but I want to hit the road sooner than later.

I've spent way too much time researching used MDT trucks... narrowing it down to crew cab Freightliners. Never saw one with a DT 466 (like I said above.. a good engine) but I did see way too many with a rebuilt Cat 3126/C7 at the 400K-500K miles range. The Cummins 8.3L/ISC would go in the 700K range with 250-300 HP. Most of the Cats at even 210HP did not make it to 500K.
Not sure why you are worrying about longevity as the average MH only gets 5-7K miles/year so in 20 years 100-140K miles, few enough for even a Cat engine to still be going strong.

Just me, but when looking at an 20+ year old motor home, the model of engine would be the least of my worries. Maybe if you find two otherwise similar units it would be worth considering to break the tie, but as the primary criteria? There are more important considerations...

1996 Country Coach 40' came with the D40 (DT466). My neighbor had one. I believe they soon switched to the C series Cummings.

Agreed, but it's a starting point. I don't have to have a dt466, but if I can get a list of 4-5 rvs thar came with them, them I can start researching if my other criteria are met.
